BJP Launches Inspection Of Nullah Cleaning Campaign Under The Leadership Of MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar

Mumbai: On Thursday, BJP Leader MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar inspected the work of nullah cleaning, where he said the BJP persistently followed up the cleaning of nullahs in Mumbai and the cleanliness drive finally started in the first week of April. On inspection, he criticised that it is unfortunate to see the silt piling up high in the nullahs whereas the authorities have gone absconding.

The BJP is celebrating Seva Saptah from April 6 to April 14 on the occasion of its Foundation Day. During this week, the BJP has decided to undertake an inspection campaign of the cleanliness of all the nullahs in Mumbai to ensure that the city does not get flooded during this monsoon season. BJP started the inspection campaign on Thursday under the leadership of MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar.

BMC group leader Prabhakar Shinde, party leader Vinod Mishra, spokesperson Bhalchandra Shirsat, corporator Abhijit Samant, Alka Kerkar, Swapna Mhatre, Hetal Gala, Pankaj Yadav, Ujwala Modak and H West ward officer Vinayak Vispute were present during this inspection campaign.

The drive began from the nullah at Khar Gazdarband South Avenue, followed by the nullahs at North Avenue, S.N.D.T, Mogra nullah, Meghwadi nullah and Koldongari nullah were inspected. Except for the nullah cleaning at S.N.D.T, work has not begun at any other location. There are mounds of silt lying in all these nullahs. It needs to be completed within the next one-and-a-half months.

Hence, MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar asked the officers on duty to speed up the work.
Speaking on this occasion, MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar said that the BMC administration had brought a proposal of cleaning the nullahs in Mumbai to the tune of Rs 130 crore to the standing committee for approval on March 9. But the ruling party failed to approve it and since their tenure ended, they fled.

Later, when the BJP raised its voice, the proposal was approved by the municipal commissioner. In fact, this work should have started by the end of March after getting immediate approval.

This work has been delayed only because of the ruling authorities. Now that the work has commenced, we will keep a close eye on it. Today, it is April 7 and mounds of silt pile up in the nullahs. This year nearly Rs 30 crore more has been allocated for cleaning nullahs compared to last year. “Is this allocation for cleaning the nullahs or pocketing funds?” questioned MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar.

Instead of paying attention and getting these works done, these authorities have gone missing, criticised MLA Adv. Ashish Shelar.
