BJP To Contest On 65 Seats In Punjab Polls, Ally Amarinder Singh’s Party 37: JP Nadda

Mumbai: BJP on Monday announced seat-sharing with Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) for Punjab elections. BJP chief JP Nadda said the party will contest the election on 65 seats.

While Punjab Lok Congress will contest on 37 seats, SAD (Sanyukt) will contest 15 seats.

Talking about nationalism and national security, Nadda said that Punjab shares a 600-km border with Pakistan and has long been a victim of nefarious activities like smuggling of drugs, arms and ammunition.

“Punjab is a border state and it is related to the security of the country, it is a very important issue as far as Punjab elections are concerned,” he said.

The BJP President further said that this alliance of NDA not only wants a change of power but it wants the stability of Punjab. “If Punjab is stable and secure then the country is safe,” he said.

Throwing light on the economic condition of Punjab, he said that as far as Punjab is concerned, it needs special attention as despite being a progressive state, it is on a debt of Rs 3 lakh crore.

“Hence, we need to make Punjab financially strong,” he said.

The Assembly elections in Punjab were initially scheduled to be held on February 14, however, after a request by political parties, the schedule was postponed to February 20 due to the Covid-19 threat. The results will be announced on March 10.
