BNP Paribas Open: Kerber Entered The Semi-Finals, Defeated Venus Williams

Mumbai: Angelique Kerber defeated Venus Williams in straight sets of 7-6(3), 6-3 on Thursday, today to make the final four at Paribas Open for the third time in her career.

Angelique Kerber had become the first German woman to win Wimbledon for 22 years as the 11th seed the previous year.

“I was really trying hard in the first set but couldn’t find my rhythm and Mark as it has been always difficult to play against Venus, I was expecting a tough match, I am happy that I won the first set and then could move in and play a little bit better, ” Kerber said.

“Today I think Williams played really well and tricky and became really difficult for me also to play the game, with changing rhythm and everything,” Kerber added.

Williams showed glimpses of strong play but she didn’t get to the control over, while Kerber had a strong day on the return.

Angelique Kerber will face Belinda Bencic in the Indian Wells semi-finals after showing her class to defeat Venus Williams in straight sets.
