Bollywood Celebrities Shows Anger Over Slashing Trees Of Aarey Colony

Mumbai: Bollywood celebrities lambasted over Aarey forest decision as Mumbai High court earlier dismissed the petition against the felling of around 2,600 trees in the colony.

Showing his concern, actor Farhan Akhtar tweeted saying, “Cutting trees at night is a pathetic attempt at trying to get away with something even those doing it know is wrong.” #Aarey #GreenIsGold #Mumbai

Whereas actress Shraddha Kapoor shared a screenshot on her Instagram story saying “This is wrong and should not be happening” and “Mumbaikars wake up.”

Meanwhile, actress Dia Mirza tweeted saying, “400 trees have been cut in the dead of the night. As citizens sang and joined hands in unity pleading to STOP this massacre. Actor turned politician Urmila Matondkar tweeted saying, “Such disappointing news on #AareyForest Cutting the trees in the night clearly shows even they know it’s horribly wrong, inhuman. But we can compliment #GretaThunberg act blind n deaf to our own #Aarey n think we did our bit to the #environment.”

A protest was held at night near Aarey forest just after Mumbai high court dismissed petitions opposing tree-cutting.

Police have booked 40 protesters under various sections of the IPC since late Friday night. An official told PTI that over 60 people protesting against the felling of trees have been detained.
