Bollywood Megastar Amitabh Bachchan Selected For Dada Saheb Phalke Award

Mumbai: Adding another feather to the cap Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been selected for the Dada Saheb Phalke award 2019, for his immeasurable contribution to Indian cinema.

Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar took to Twitter to make the big announcement.

He wrote, “The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahabPhalke award. The entire country and the international community are happy. My heartiest congratulations to him.”

The announcement was delayed due to the Lok Sabha elections 2019 this year. This year the National Film Awards announcements were also deferred for a few months.

Bachchan has won numerous accolades in his career, including four National Film Awards as Best Actor and many awards at international film festivals and award ceremonies. He has won fifteen Filmfare Awards and is the most nominated performer in any major acting category at Filmfare, with 41 nominations overall.

The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contributions to the arts. The Government of France honoured him with its highest civilian honour, Knight of the Legion of Honour, in 2007 for his exceptional career in the world of cinema and beyond.

Meanwhile, Bachchan at 76 is busy with his upcoming projects like he will be seen playing a khadoos landlord in Gulabo Sitabo with Ayushmann Khurrana, he is also part of an adventure fantasy drama called Brahmastra along with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

The Dada Saheb Phalke award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema, was conferred on the late Vinod Khanna in 2018.
