Budget 2019: Former FM P Chidambaram Slammed Budget Presented By Sitharaman Says, ‘Lacks Flavour’

Mumbai: Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram criticized the speech of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with the budget 2019 as on Friday.

P Chidambaram said that the budget was insensitive and there was a lack of taste and the speech of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was “unusually opaque practice”

He also said, “Has there ever been a budget speech that does not disclose total revenue, total expenditure, fiscal deficit, revenue deficit, additional revenues or financial concessions?” P. Chidambaram asked.

P Chidambaram further said, “Has there ever been a budget speech that does not disclose important programs like MNREGA, mid-day meal scheme, healthcare etc., and allocation for weaker sections like SC, ST, minorities and women etc. ? We are surprised by this departure from normal practice.”

P Chidambaram also said that the budget 2019 has not come to the expectations or is giving relief to any section of the people.

“Relying on the broad expectations, the Finance Minister has not given any meaningful relief to any section of the people, on the contrary, the Finance Minister has increased the customs duty on a large number of goods, raises tax on petrol and diesel and is widespread. Proposals have been proposed. ” The Income Tax Act, which will increase the tax and compliance burden on the taxpayer, “said P. Chidambaram.

P Chidambaram also condemned the Narendra Modi government and said that the Prime Minister believes that only he and his government can provide basic public goods and services to the people.

P Chidambaram said, “We disagree, we think states have the capacity to deliver public goods and services and it is not right to reduce the state governments.”

“The Modi government refused to measure the results, refused to pay attention to the field report and refused to correct the exaggerated claims of success,” said P. Chidambaram.

P Chidambaram also said, “The budget has been prepared without hearing the voice of ordinary citizens or knowledgeable economists.”
