Budget 2021-22: FM Sitharaman Provides ₹35,000 Crores for Covid-19 vaccines

Mumbai: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday announced ₹ 35,000 crores for COVID-19 vaccines in the Union Budget 2121-22.

“Government to provide ₹ 35,000 crores for covid-19 vaccination in 2021-22; I am committed to providing more funding if necessary,” she said.

“India now has the lowest number of COVID-19 death rates of 112 per million population and one of the least active cases of around 130 per million. This has laid the foundation for the economic revival we have seen today: Sitharaman said in Parliament.

She said, “Today India has two vaccines available and has started protecting its citizens against COVID-19, but also for people from 100 or more countries. It is reassuring to know that soon 2 more vaccines are expected.”

India took only 13 days to complete the vaccination of three million (30 lakh) people, fastest in the world, the health ministry has said.

This rate of vaccination puts India ahead of the United States which took 18 days to reach the three million mark.

Israel took 33 days and the United Kingdom took 36 days to cover three million vaccination, health ministry data revealed. India was also the fastest to reach one million and two million vaccination marks, the health ministry data showed.
