Central Probe Agencies Shouldn’t Misuse Powers: Ajit Pawar

Mumbai: Central investigation agencies have the right to search and raid but they should not “misuse powers”, Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said.

His statement comes after multiple search operations were carried out by the Enforcement Directorate at the premises of Maharashtra minister Anil Parab.

“Central investigation agencies have the right (to search and raid) but they should not be misused. I don’t know why this action has been taken against state minister Anil Parab. He added, “The central agency exercises these powers in different ways. You have seen how ED, IT, etc., carry out their investigations. Action has also been taken against my relatives. Central agencies have the power to investigate. Central agencies have got the right from the law itself, but it has to be seen that it is not misused.”

ED raids multiple locations linked to Anil Parab

On 26 May, the ED conducted raids at several places in Maharashtra as part of a money-laundering probe by state Transport Minister Anil Parab.

This was in connection with alleged irregularities and other allegations in a land deal in the coastal Dapoli area of ​​Ratnagiri district. The searches are being conducted at locations in Dapoli, Mumbai and Pune after a fresh case was registered by the federal agency under the criminal part of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

State Transport Minister Anil Parab (57) is a three-time Shiv Sena politician in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. The ED had conducted the raid on the allegation that Parab had bought a plot of land in Dapoli in 2017 for Rs 1 crore, but it was registered only in 2019. While it turned out that some additions have also been observed.
