Centre Cannot Impose Nationwide Lockdown, It Is Against Federalism: Asaduddin Owaisi

Mumbai: Asaduddin Owaisi slammed centre referring to the nationwide lockdown of the government’s strategy to combat coronavirus pandemic– as unconstitutional.

“This lockdown is unconstitutional. According to the National Disaster Management Act, Epidemic Act, the Indian government cannot enforce lockdowns across the country; it is against federalism, it is a state subject and I wonder why the state government is silent, “AIMIM chief said in an online public meeting

He further appealed to the people of Malegaon to stay at home amid an increase in coronavirus cases in the country. Owaisi said, “Due to this lockdown, migrant laborers are suffering. 16 people have died in Aurangabad. I appeal to the citizens of Malegaon to stay home.”

The AIMIM chief urged people not to fear quarantine facilities as it is “for your own good”. “COVID-19 is something that can affect any human being. Don’t be afraid of quarantine. It’s good for you. You’ll be away for 8-10 days which is fine because it is good for you and the people around you.”

“I appeal to everyone; we have to fight this virus from a social distance and anything that will keep this virus away. Hate the virus, not the people affected by it. Try to help them have patience. Come forward if you suspect that you have the virus, do not be afraid,” he added.
