Centre Demands Detailed Report On Violence, Doctor’s Strike From West Bengal Govt

Mumbai: In view of the current situation in West Bengal, the Center has sought a report on the measures taken by the state government on political violence and other doctors’ strike.

According to sources, the Home Ministry (MHA) said in a statement issued to the state government, “In the past few years, unrestricted violence is obviously a matter of grave concern.”

Regarding the movement of doctors, the MHA said, “The Ministry is in the process of getting the representation of doctors, health care professionals and medical associations from different parts of the country for its safety and security in view of the strike. It is requested that a detailed report be sent urgently on the representations and the ongoing strike by the doctors.”

The doctors are protesting against the growing violence, the medical fraternity is facing Nil Ratan Sarkar (NRS) Medical College and a junior doctor in the hospital, in which a patient had died on June 10.

The MHA also pointed out the number of election-related incidents of political violence, as well as casualties over the last four years – from 2016 to 2019.

After attacking two colleagues on the issue of alleged negligence on the NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, both junior and senior doctors were on strike for the last five days after being attacked and seriously injured.
