Centre Should Accept Its Mistake, Seek Manmohan Singh’s Advice On ‘Economic Slowdown’: P Chidambaram

Mumbai: Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram lambasted the Center over unemployment growth and economic slowdown and said that the government should accept that they had made mistakes and former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has been requested to advise him about the ‘sinking economy’.

“This is the most anti-poor government to date. Rural India and the agricultural sector are in a poor state. The least this government can do is to admit that they have made mistakes and ask Dr Manmohan Singh and advise us. Will give. Underlining that the most important thing to know is the ‘state of the Indian economy’, he asked, “Why is the Finance Minister (Nirmala Sitharaman) not ready to disclose India’s economic state?”

Taking a pinch on Sitharaman, he compared the presentation of the Union Budget 2020 by the Finance Minister with the ‘Satyanarayana Katha’ (religious worship of the Hindu god Vishnu).

“If I had read Satyanarayana katha”, I would have known what he said during the budget presentation. Never before in the history of India, domestic product (GDP) has declined by 6 quarters. Bring quarters, I don’t know? Inputs are down for the last 8 months. This government remains in denial, ”he said.

The Congress MP later called the demonstration a ‘major flaw’ and said it had caused “death of jobs”.

“The performance has killed jobs and it was a big mess. The other mess was the implementation of Good Service and Tax (GST). India’s economic growth has come down from 8.2 per cent to 5 per cent,” he said.

Claiming that ‘India’s economy is in the ICU’, he said: “While the economy has become a patient, the Finance Minister is still saying ‘Acche Din Aane Wale Hai’ (good days are coming soon) I hope the patient is revived soon.”

He said, Rs 11000 crore was sanctioned for the mid-day meal scheme but only Rs 9,900 crore was allocated. “For skill development, he (government) proposed a budget of Rs 7,200 crore, but spent only Rs 5,700 crore.”
