Centre To Supply 1.9 Crore COVID-19 Vaccines To States-UTs Free Of Cost In Next 15 Days

Mumbai: Amid claims of vaccine shortage in states and union territories, the central government has said that it will supply 1 crore 92 lakh doses – Covishield and Covaxin – in the next 15 days.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar announced that the central government will supply around 1 crore 92 lakh COVID-19 vaccines to the states and union territories. Vaccines will be given free and distributed in the fortnight of 16th-31st May 2021.

The government will share the delivery schedule in advance with the states and union territories and they have been requested to instruct the authorities concerned to ensure rational and judicious use of the allocated doses and to reduce vaccine wastage.

The dose of 191.99 lakhs will include 162.5 lakh doses of Covishield and 29.49 lakh doses of Covaxin.

The Ministry stated that the allocation of the Center’s supply to the States / UTs during the next fortnight has been decided on the consumption pattern and beneficiary burden for the second dose.

From May 1 to May 15, 2021, more than 1.7 crore vaccine doses were made available free of cost by the Center to the States / UTs

Besides this, more than 4.39 crore doses were made available for direct procurement by the states as well as private hospitals in the month of May.
