Centre Wouldn’t Have Repealed Farm Laws, If There Were No Upcoming Elections: Sharad Pawar

Sharad Pawar asserted that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra will complete its 5 year tenure

Mumbai: National Congress Party Chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday has alleged that the BJP-led government would not have repealed the three farm laws had been there no elections scheduled next year.

Speaking to reporters in Maharashtra’s Satara district, Pawar said, “If the Centre had taken the States into confidence & discussed the three farm laws in the Parliament, then the situation could’ve been different today…If there were no upcoming elections a decision to repeal the laws may not have been take.”

Sharad Pawar further asserted that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra will complete its tenure and also assured that the three-party alliance will come to power again in elections.

“I am of the firm opinion that this Maharashtra government will complete its 5 years term. If they (the alliance of Maha Vikas Aghadi) contest the next elections together they will come to power again,1” NCP leader Sharad Pawar.

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Central government will repeal the three contentious farm laws as they failed to ‘convince farmers.

Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been camping outside Delhi since November 2020, demanding that the laws be withdrawn. There have been several rounds of talks between the farmer leaders and the Centre but the impasse remained.

Uttar Pradesh along with Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat go for assembly elections in the year 2022.
