Cong MLA Naresh Saini, Ex-SP MLA Dharmpal Yadav Join BJP Ahead Of UP Polls

Mumbai: In a setback to the Congress and the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh, two sitting MLAs and a former MLA have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today.

Congress MLA Naresh Saini from Behat (Saharanpur), Hari Om Yadav from Sirsaganj (Firozabad) and former SP MLA Dr Dharampal Singh joined BJP in the presence of senior BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Labor minister and BJP’s OBC face Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the Yogi Adityanath government and announced that he would join the Samajwadi Party (SP) on January 14.

BJP sources told IANS that Maurya was looking for a ticket for his son, Utkarsh Maurya. His daughter Sanghamitra Maurya is already an MP from Badaun.

A prominent leader of the OBC (Other Backward Classes) community, Maurya had joined the BJP in 2016 from the Bahujan Samaj Party.

BJP MLA Vinay Shakya has also said that he will accompany Maurya while Roshan Lal Verma, Brijendra Prajapati and Bhagwati Sharan Sagar also resigned.

Elections for the 403-member Uttar Pradesh assembly will be held in seven phases with polling on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, and March 3 and 7.

The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
