Mumbai: Newly-elected Mumbai Congress President Ashok Arjunrao Jagtap suggested on Sunday that the party contest all 227 seats in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls in 2022.
Jagtap said, “As the president of the Mumbai Congress, I strongly believe that Congress should contest all 227 seats in BMC.” He said, “Even when we were in power with the NCP [1999-2014] for 15 years, we always fought the BMC election independently and should still be followed.”
Top leaders in the MVA government have been advocating that the three parties should contest elections together for all local bodies to defeat the BJP.
Currently, the Shiv Sena is in power in the BMC and Congress is acting as the main opposition party. The BJP is determined to dislike the Shiv Sena and has started preparations through ‘Mission Mumbai’. Kandivali MLA Atul Bhatalkar has been appointed as the head of this mission.
