Cong To Hold Nationwide Protest Against Fuel Price Hike On June 11

Mumbai: Congress will hold a nationwide “symbolic protest” on June 11 in front of petrol pumps across the country against rising fuel prices. The opposition party has decided to hit the streets after the fuel prices have crossed the hundred rupees mark in several states.

The party has directed all state units and frontal organizations to hold protests and demand withdrawal of the price hike.

Congress general secretary Sangathan KC Venugopal has asked state units to hold a “symbolic protest” against the immediate demand to withdraw public loot and price hikes.

He has further said that there should be a clear public campaign against the uncontrolled rise in petrol and diesel prices and its impact on people suffering from the unprecedented economic slowdown, widespread unemployment, wage cuts and job losses.

Senior party leaders will also participate in the dharna. KC Venugopal, in a letter to the state units, has said that the prices of petrol and diesel are increasing across the country even amid the pandemic.

The rise in petrol prices will eventually lead to an unprecedented rise in the prices of all household items and essential commodities. Petrol prices have crossed Rs 100 in many states. Petrol and diesel prices have been increasing continuously for the last 13 months, which is currently at a record high.
