Cong Weaker Than Sena & NCP, Should Not Go Solo In Maha: Ramdas Athawale

Mumbai: Congress is weaker than Shiv Sena and NCP, and it should not fight upcoming polls solo in Maharashtra, Republican Party of India (A) chief Ramdas Athawale said.

On Monday, Athawale had said that PM Narendra Modi will return to power at the Centre in 2024. Further, he also urged the Shiv Sena to return to the BJP camp with the former’s CM for 2.5 years.

“The Maha Vikas Aghadi government was made with the help of 42 Congress MLAs. Nana Patole should speak to Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar directly over the appointment of the chief minister from their party for 2-2.5 years. If it does not happen, then they (Congress) should withdraw from the alliance,” Athawale told news agency ANI.

His statement came soon after Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole indicated that the party may contest the next election in the state alone, not under the umbrella of Maha Vikas Aghadi, its rather unnatural alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shiv Sena, all of which differ in ideologies.

Commenting on Pawar’s meet with Kishor, Athawale said – “Not all opposition parties can come together under the leadership of Sharad Pawar. Some may say it will be under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi while others may say, Rahul Gandhi…It is not going to happen. In the 2024 elections, the government will be formed under the leadership of Narendra Modi.”
