Congress Fact-Finding Committee Wants Dismissal Of JNU V-C, Says Violence ‘State-Sponsored’

Police said 304 students, including JNUSU President Aish Ghosh, were treated at the AIIMS Trauma Center and were later discharged

Mumbai: Following the recent incident took place in JNU, Congress and Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Association (JNUSU) demanded the removal of JNU Vice-Chancellor (V-C) M Jagadish Kumar in the violence on the Varsity campus.

Sushmita Dev, one of the members of the Congress Committee, also demanded that a criminal investigation should be conducted against Kumar, some faculty members and the campus security agency.

“Vice-Chancellor M Jagadish Kumar should be dismissed immediately. An independent inquiry should be conducted to examine all the appointments and administrative decisions made by him. The VC, security agency and faculty who are involved in the incident should be called upon. Will have to face a criminal investigation, said Dev while addressing the media in New Delhi.

“It is clear that the attack on the JNU campus was state-sponsored,” he said. Dev further said that “the Commissioner of Police should also be held accountable, not just the ACP on what happened on 5 January.”

On 5 January, masked people, armed with iron and bamboo sticks, entered the university campus and destroyed property in the beating and devastation of students and faculty, which lasted for hours.

Police said 304 students, including JNUSU President Aish Ghosh, were treated at the AIIMS Trauma Center and were later discharged.
