Congress High Command Adopts Wait & Watch Policy; Sidhu breaks Silence ‘Will Sacrifice Everything’

Mumbai: Navjot Singh Sidhu’s resignation from the post of the Punjab Congress president has shaken the party’s state unit, forcing the high command to get into a huddle and resolve the crisis as it eyes re-election in next year’s assembly polls.

The Congress high command has asked Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi to convince Sidhu to withdraw his resignation as state party chief, according to Times Now. The Congress top brass in Delhi has adopted a “wait and watch policy” and has instructed the local leadership to resolve the issue. “We are maintaining a wait and watch policy as Navjot Singh Sidhu is an emotional person. Sidhu’s move has fueled the Punjab Congress crisis, leading to a series of resignations as one minister and three other party leaders close to the leader stepped down from their posts dealing a major blow to the high command that was hoping to resolve the bitter power tussle between the cricket-turned-politician and Captain Amarinder Singh. Also Read: Told You So, He Isn’t A Stable Man: Amarinder As Sidhu Quits As Punjab Cong Chief

Navjot Singh Sidhu broke his silence on Wednesday and quelled all speculations regarding his resignations by saying that he was willing to sacrifice this and much more for the sake of Punjab.

“There is no personal rivalry with anyone…17 years of my political career has been for a purpose, to make difference, to take a stand and to make people’s lives better. This is my only religion. I will never compromise on principles. My fight is for the people of Punjab and I am ready to sacrifice everything for that. I will keep fighting for the truth till my last breath,” he said via a video message shared on Twitter.

Punjab ministers Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Pargat Singh met Navjot Singh Sidhu at his residence in Patiala amid the crisis. “There are some minor issues that arose out of some misunderstandings and will be resolved,” Warring said.

Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat has reportedly reached Chandigarh to handle the crisis.

“We have nothing to worry about. Everything will be all right,” Congress general secretary KC Venugopal told a reporter.

Rumours were rife that he resigned from the post of Punjab Congress chief over differences with CM Charanjit Channi regarding the appointment of Advocate General of Punjab. However, Sidhu’s resignation has reportedly not been accepted by Congress leadership.
