Congress Leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi Calls UNSC Meeting Over Kashmir Issue Is Govt’s Diplomatic Failure

Mumbai:  Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha Abhishek Manu Singhvi feels UNSC meeting over Kashmir issue should be canceled says it is a grave diplomatic failure and strategic failure of the government.

He also said that issues over J&K are inalienable, untouchable part of India, no other body, group, organization, an individual can assert to the contrary. This is a non-negotiable, non-discussable issue as far as India is concerned.

“Here, far from bilateral and internal, we are jumping to internationalization. I am sorry to say, India as a whole stands behind the government, but this is a grave diplomatic failure of the government,” said Singhvi.

Under the nose of Modi govt, while hosting our Foreign minister, Chinese govt gets this meeting organized at Pakistan’s behest, is this not a strategic failure other than being a diplomatic faux pas. Why should such a meeting be held at the UN?” he said.

I implore the honorable Prime Minister to not remain silent and move all our friends in the UN security council to have this meeting canceled. This issue is not open for discussion,” Singhvi added.

The outcome of the UNSC meeting will not be a formal pronouncement as the consultations are informal in nature. India and Pakistan are not attending the meeting, which is open only to the five permanent members and 10 non-permanent members.

Tensions raised between both countries after the Indian government scrapped Article 370 which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir state.
