Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi Met Kerala CM Vijayan

Mumbai: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Tuesday, during which he raised the issue of floods in the southern state and demanded early resolution of the problems that people were facing.

Gandhi was accompanied by party general secretaries KC Venugopal and IC Balakrishnan, Congress MLA Sultan Bathory who fall in their Lok Sabha constituency, Wayanad.

The Congress delegation also reviewed the post-flood relief and rehabilitation efforts initiated by the CPI (M) -led LDF government in Kerala and urged Vijayan to ensure timely payment of compensation and implement flood mitigation measures.

After the meeting, Gandhi said that he discussed the flood situation in Kerala with Vijayan.

“I am not going into details, but basically we have mentioned the flood situation and the need for quick compensation, ban on night travel and the problems people are facing,” he told reporters.

The Congress leader said that he told Vijayan that he wanted to tell the government that this was a serious situation, which needed to be addressed immediately.

When asked about the Chief Minister’s response, Gandhi said, “They said that they are talking to the Center and they are trying. They assured us that they are trying to resolve the issue. This People in Kerala and Wayanad are in a lot of pain.”
