Congress Leaders Are Not Emperors Of India: TMC’s Mahua Moitra

Mumbai: TMC leader Mahua Moitra said that Congress should realise that their leaders are not “emperors of India”. If Congress did its duty well in Goa, there was no need for TMC to enter the state’s poll fray, she added.

She said the Trinamool Congress is ready for an alliance in Goa as defeating the BJP is the “need of the hour”, but added that the Congress should get off its “high horse” and wake up to its dwindling strength.

In an interview with PTI, Chidambaram also said that TMC and AAP do not have a cadre base in Goa constituencies and they try to build their parties through cults.

Referring to the statements of the Congress leader, Moitra said that the fight in Goa is between BJP and anti-BJP forces.

“The anti-BJP forces in Goa today are Congress, AAP and TMC. Now it is a fight between them. None of them can claim that we are alone,” he said.

Moitra, TMC’s desk in charge for Goa, said all three parties are in the fray in Goa, and this is the fact that Congress should wake up.

“I think it is important for people to understand that if Congress had done its job, there would have been no need for us (TMC) to be here. We are here because Congress could not do its job. Congress is a platform which is not adequate enough to defeat the BJP,” she added.

TMC is ready for an alliance, Moitra said, adding, “We are saying come to the table and talk to us about how we can defeat the BJP. This is the need of the hour.”

She said the people of Goan will respect the fact that the TMC is not sitting on a high horse and that the party has no ego. “TMC is saying if everybody comes together we can defeat the BJP,” she said.

She said that Chidambaram and the Congress leadership should realize that the time has come to fight the BJP and it is also the right time for the Congress to come off its high horse and realize that it is not capable of fighting this battle alone.

“We appeal to the people of Goa, that we are here to offer an anti-BJP platform. We are open for an anti-BJP platform…we have said that but if people think that they are emperors and they are doling out largesse, then fine we are there as a platform and Mamata Banerjee is anti-BJP leader,” she said.

Assembly polls for all 40 seats in Goa will be held on February 14.
