Congress Names Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury As Its Leader In Lok Sabha After Rahul Says ‘No’ To Post

Mumbai: Congress President Rahul Gandhi refused to take post of a leader at 17th Lok Sabha by which party named Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as its leader.

Chowdhury joined the Indian National Congress Party during the premiere of Rajiv Gandhi. In 1991, he contested the West Bengal Legislative Assembly election from Nabagram constituency. During the voting, he followed 300 supporters of the Indian Communist Party (Marxist) and made his candidate hostage.

Chowdhury contested the 1999 general elections from the Berhampur constituency. He won the margin of 95,391 votes [3] and beat Prometheus Mukherjee, the current parliamentarian of the Revolutionary Socialist Party. After his success, he was made Congress President of Murshidabad district.

Earlier on 16th June, Chowdhury and Kerala unit executive president, K. Suresh had participated in an all-party meeting with Ghulam Nabi Azad, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, it was speculated that one of the two leaders could be made the leader of the Congress. Lok Sabha.
