Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena’s Citizenship Amendment Bill: There Will Be A Collective Stand: Reports

Mumbai: At a time when opposition parties are arguing with the Center over the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), which is likely to be tabled in Parliament on Monday, ANI news agency reported that Maha Vikas Aghadi will have a collective stance on the issue after reaching a consensus.

The ANI quoted its sources as saying, “In the Common Minimum Program (Congress-NCP-Shiv Sena) it was decided that the stand would be taken on national issues (Citizenship Amendment Bill) after consensus. Congress Uddhav Thackeray Will talk to you.”

On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah met several politicians and activists from northeastern states including the Chief Ministers of Manipur, Nagaland and Assam to discuss the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

During his meetings on 29 November, 30 and 3 December, Shah discussed the proposed bill with several politicians, activists and representatives of civil society in the northeastern states.

The CAB was approved by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday. It wants to grant citizenship to non-Muslims from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh if they face persecution in their countries.
