Mumbai: After government led by PM Narendra Modi, withdraw SPG cover of Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, party leaders have staged protest in Parliament.
Slamming PM Modi and his government Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Tuesday gave notice in Lok Sabha on the Home Ministry’s move to remove the special protection from the Gandhi family.
Earlier, Adhir Ranjan had slammed the move and asked, “What is their fault? Why is the government targeting the Opposition?”
The Gandhis were placed under the Z-plus security cover after 28 years of SPG protection. They are now being manned by CRPF personnel.
The government’s decision to withdraw the SPG cover given to the family of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated by LTTE terrorists on May 21, 1991, was taken after a detailed security assessment, a senior Home Ministry official had said.
