Considering Resuming Local Trains For All Commuters In Mumbai: Maha CM

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that the state government is considering resuming local train services for all commuters in Mumbai. The chief minister also said that the decision in this regard would be taken with responsibility.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new municipal building, CM Thackeray praised the Mumbai civic body saying it has been successful in containing the spread of COVID-19 in the metropolis. The chief minister said the resumption of suburban train services for all in Mumbai was being considered and his government would take a responsible decision on the issue.

Mumbai has been reporting less than 500 coronavirus cases daily for the last three weeks.

Suburban train services in the metropolis were suspended for the general public in April this year due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. At present, only government employees and employees of essential services are allowed to travel in local trains.

He said that the Shiv Sena-ruled Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been successful in containing the spread of COVID-19. Thackeray said that during the pandemic, the BMC has not shied away from its responsibility of providing services to the citizens.

“Relaxation of coronavirus restrictions would be given wherever it is possible. The Mumbai model (of coronavirus management) was praised during the pandemic and a slum-like Dharavi has defeated the virus,” he said.
