Containment Zones In Delhi Fall From 58,000 To 472 In Last 2 Months

Delhi: The number of containment zones in Delhi has declined from over 58,000 to less than 500 in the last two months. According to the latest figures of the revenue department, the total number of containment zones across Delhi’s 11 districts is 472.

Besides, there are zero containment zones in the southeast district so far and at least six of the national capital’s 11 districts are present in the eastern district, eight in the central and 10 in the northeast.

According to the data, the maximum number is in the New Delhi district at 176. There are 86 in North District and 64 in South District, 35 in West, 34 in Shahdada and 30 and 23 in North-West. and southwest respectively.

Although the red zones were very large and covered a large population, micro-containment zones were created, which included smaller areas and fewer people.

Around the second half of April, the national capital saw a huge increase in containment zones and reached 58,000 by mid-May. The report said that between April 13 and May 13, on average, at least 1,700 such zones were created.

Though the national capital had over 6500 such zones in April, it touched 57,550 in May. The huge jump came at a time when the national capital recorded a steady rise in the number of COVID-19.

As cases continue to decline, Delhi witnessed 28,395 cases on April 20, the highest single-day increase ever, with the containment zones currently the lowest since their creation in March 2020.
