COVID-19 Patients To Cremated Regardless Of Religion; BMC Says No Burials Are Allowed

Mumbai: With the increasing number of cases of Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 in Maharashtra, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Monday that all bodies of coronavirus patients should be cremated irrespective of their religion.

The BMC categorically stated that no burials would be allowed in Mumbai.

BMC Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi announced, “All the bodies of COVID-19 patients should be cremated regardless of religion. Burial will not be allowed. No more than 5 people should attend the funeral.”

However, he said that if someone insists for burial, they will be allowed only when the body is taken out of the jurisdiction of the Mumbai area.

The order came in the wake of increasing cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra and especially in Mumbai.

According to the latest reports, 88 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been registered so far in Mumbai, as the total tally in the state has breached 200 points.
