COVID-19 Vaccine Shortage Is Only Because Of Narendra Modi: Owaisi

Mumbai: While criticising the Centre for “failing” to vaccinate people amid the COVID-19 pandemic, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Party, Asaduddin Owaisi, said on Thursday that policy paralysis by the BJP-led central government led to a lack of COVID vaccination across the country.

Speaking to ANI, Owaisi said, “The lack of vaccine is only because of PM Narendra Modi. He ordered the vaccines too late. We don’t have transparency. They (centre) lie to the people that the first dose. After, take the second dose after 4 weeks. Then it was postponed for 6 weeks, now it is 12-16 weeks. It shows his policy paralysis.”

Owaisi blamed the Center for the lack of vaccine in the country. “It is entirely the Center’s fault that India is facing a severe shortage of COVID vaccines. The Centre is not yet transparent about the amount of vaccine that has been procured to date from the vaccine manufacturing firms.”

Questioning the government about transparency, Owaisi said, “How many vaccines have been purchased so far?” How many vaccine doses have been distributed to the states? How many people have been vaccinated to date? How many more vaccine doses will be procured by the government in the future?”

He further said that the government has once again decided that the second dose of vaccine should be given between 12 to 16 weeks after the first dose is received.

“There is no logical science to delay the second dose. It was initially reported that the second dose should be taken after 4 weeks, then has been increased to 6 weeks and now again the time for taking the second dose has been increased to 12 to 16 weeks after the first dose has been taken,” he said.

Speaking further, Owaisi said why the Center has limited the production of a vaccine to just two companies across India when the central government itself hires 7 public sector undertakings (PSUs) that can manufacture the vaccine.

“People are losing their loved ones every day and bodies are floating in the Ganges river. But the central government shows no remorse for these incidents,” Owaisi said. He said that the Modi government has lost its sense of compassion and is not trying to save the lives of the people of India.
