COVID19: No Muharram Procession Anywhere In Country, Rules Apex Court

Mumbai: Following the COVID19 outbreak in the country, the three-judge bench of CJI SA Bobde and Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian on Thursday ruled that there will be no Muharram procession anywhere in the country. A petition was filed in the apex court a few weeks ago seeking permission to carry out the procession in a limited manner.

The petition stated that only five participants would take part in the mourning procession and all other security protocols would be followed. The bench had earlier asked the state governments to be a party to the case.

According to the MHA guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic, no religious gathering is allowed anywhere in the country. Guidelines for unlocking the fourth phase, which will start from 1 September, will be released soon.

While passing that order, the bench headed by CJI SA Bobde had clarified that the order should not be considered a precedent.
