Crowd Of Tourists Seen In Lonavala Over Weekend Amid COVID-19 Curbs

Mumbai: Many tourists gathered at various tourist spots in Pune’s Lonavala over the weekend. The district administration has banned tourism in many places including Lonavala to avoid crowd gatherings amid COVID-19.

The Pune Rural Police was unable to investigate the situation due to paucity of manpower. Many tourists were seen roaming around without a face mask.

Recently Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune district Ajit Pawar appealed to the citizens to strictly follow the social distancing norms and avoid gathering as there is a possibility of third wave of coronavirus in the coming days.

Citizens, however, seemed reckless of the warnings and gathered in large numbers at Lonavala on Sunday. Tourist places like Tiger Point, Lions Point, Bhushi Dam were crowded and many of them enjoyed the scenery as well as the waterfalls in Lonavala, people were seen roaming without masks.

Usually, the police put up barricades at Raywood Chowk in Lonavala to keep an eye on the tourists. But on Sunday, there was a program of NCP chief Sharad Pawar in Junnar tehsil and several police personnel were deployed from Lonavala for the security of the event. Therefore, the police did not keep an eye on the tourists who came to Lonavala on Sunday.
