Curfew Re-Imposed in Srinagar On The Eve of Eid, Centre “Has Burnt Its Hands In Fire” Says Congress Leader Digvijay Singh

Mumbai: Curfew has been re-imposed in Srinagar on Eid while the state police stressed the situation was peaceful in the state that has been in lockdown. This has been since the Narendra Modi government decided to repeal Article 370, which granted special status to the state.

Spokesperson, Ministry of Home Affairs said, “Eid prayers offered peacefully in all local mosques of Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Bandipore, without any untoward incident. Jamia masjid old town Baramulla witnessed approx 10,000 people offering prayers.”

Congress leader Salman Khurshid lashed out at the BJP for not gaining consensus before scrapping Article 370.

“If they have something better than 370 that meets the objective of integrating Kashmir even more closely with India, nobody would have any objection. The way in which they have done it is constitutionally questionable,” he said.

Digvijaya Singh said that the Centre “has burnt its hands in the fire” and should be careful or “we will lose Kashmir”. On that remark, Union Minister Ravi Shankar.

Jammu and Kashmir principal secretary Rohit Kansal said, “There have been some reports in the media about firing by security agencies and deaths, the police carried out a detailed briefing and I would like to reiterate and categorically deny that any firing incident has happened in Jammu and Kashmir.”

He further asserted that “not a single bullet has been fired by the security agencies nor has there been any casualty.” While reports of shooting are being circulated through the state.

The National is witnessing these events in Jammu and Kashmir since the scraping off of Article 370.
