Congress Working Committee Rejects Rahul Gandhi’s Resignation

Mumbai:  Resignation by Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been rejected by Congress Working Committee today. This comes after Congress lost Lok Sabha Election by a huge margin against BJP led by PM Narendra Modi.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, senior party spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala claimed that all the members of CWC urged Rahul Gandhi to continue discharging his duties as party president. He said that all the members requested Rahul to lead the party in this challenging time and to become the voice of the youth of India.

Senior party leaders like former prime minister Manmohan Singh, party chief Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mallikarjun Kharge attended the meeting. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, CM Amarinder Singh of Punjab and Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh were also present in the meeting. Four Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states and Union Territory of Puducherry was asked to attend the CWC meeting.

Only four out of the 23 members of the CWC won the election – party chief Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Gaurav Gogoi, and A. Chela Kumar.

The Congress captured 52 seats in the 452-seat Lok Sabha contest, which has made minor improvements in the general elections of only 44 seats in the 2014 general elections.
