CWG 2022: Indian Wrestler Anshu Malik Clinches Silver In Women’s Freestyle 57Kg

Mumbai: Wrestler Anshu Malik bagged India’s first wrestling medal at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 after clinching silver following her defeat to two-time CWG gold medallist Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye in the women’s freestyle 57 kg event.

Malik faced 3-7 defeat against Nigeria’s Adekuoroye in the gold medal match.

Talking about the match, Odunayo dominated from the beginning. They took a 2-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Later, the Nigerians continued their dominance and won 4-0 and found themselves on the verge of victory.

Coming into the last minute, Odunayo maintained a 4–1 lead and was on the verge of victory.

However, Anshu came back strongly and made the final seconds of the game quite entertaining. Although she managed to have an exciting end to the game, it got delayed a bit as the match ended 6-4.

Commonwealth Games 2022 started in Birmingham on July 28 and will go on till August 8.
