“Today marks a dark day in the constitutional history of India. The passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill marks the victory of narrow-minded and bigoted forces over India’s pluralism,” Gandhi said in a statement.

The Congress chief said that the bill defeats the idea of India as refugees will be given citizenship on the basis of religion.

“The bill fundamentally challenges the idea of India which our ancestors fought for their place, creating a perverted, perverted and divided India where religion would become the determinant of nationalism,” he said.

Gandhi said that the bill also goes against the principles of equality and religious discrimination in the Constitution.

She continued, “represents a rejection of an India that would be an independent nation for all its people irrespective of religion, region, caste, creed, language or ethnicity.”

The Congress leader said that historically, India has given shelter to the oppressed belonging to all countries and religions.

Furthermore, Gandhi gave the slogan to the ruling BJP to carry forward its dangerous divisive and polarizing agenda.
