Death Toll Rises To 10 In Building Collapse Incident In Mumbai’s Kurla

Mumbai: The death toll in the building collapse incident in Mumbai’s Kurla has risen to 10, even as the rescue operations and removal of debris are currently underway, according to officials

About a dozen fire tenders, two rescue vans and other fire equipment were deployed at the spot for the rescue operation. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams along with civilian staff and police are engaged in the operation on the spot.

A wing of the Nayak Nagar Society building in Kurla collapsed around midnight. Officials said another wing was also likely to crash and it has been evacuated.

The injured have been admitted to the civil hospitals of Ghatkopar and Sion.

“I have requested the fire bridge and the NDRF to carry out the operation (search and rescue operation) carefully as there could be some people alive inside,” Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said.

Maharashtra minister Subhash Desai has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased, while the injured will be given free treatment.
