Decennial Edition Of Bengaluru India Nano 2018 Inaugurated

Dr. S Sampath, Professor, Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, awarded prestigious “Prof. C.N.R. Rao Bengaluru INDIA NANO Science 2018 Award”

Mumbai : The 10th edition of Bengaluru India Nano, which brings together outstanding scientists and reputed names from academia and the industry from around the world, was inaugurated by honourable Chief Minister Shri HD Kumaraswamy, at The Lalit Ashok today.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “Technology and science has been the focus of the investment in Karnataka and this event is a significant milestone for positioning the state as a global talent and research and development hub. It is technology platforms such as these that will spur the growth of new industries and further research into innovative technologies. Bringing together top researchers, industry personnel and scientists from around the world is crucial to the new economic landscape that is unfolding in Karnataka and speaks of the state’s impact on the world.”

Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble minister for IT and BT Science & Technology K G George said “Nano technology is the heart of emerging technology and innovation. Bengaluru India Nano has played a catalytic role in providing all the facilities in terms of state-of-the-art infrastructure and proactive policies to ensure the growth of this emerging industry in Karnataka in the coming years.”

He also expressed his sincere gratitude to Prof. C.N.R Rao for his unstinted support in changing the science and technology State, including nano, and creating a platform in bridging the industry-academia gap and bringing together the best brains of the industry, scientists, academicians, experts and entrepreneurs in building an extraordinary ecosystem for “Better and New India”.

Prof. C.N.R. Rao, FRS, National Research Professor; Linus Pauling Research Professor & Honorary President, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) presided over the inaugural programme in the presence of Shri. K. J. George, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science and Technology and Large and Medium Scale Industries and Sugar, Government of Karnataka. Speaking at the event, the Minister said, “Karnataka has always been the choice for scientists, innovators and global industry leaders to connect and showcase the spectrum of current and emerging technologies. The state focuses on designing policies to suit the changing needs of these sectors. These emerging technologies have been key considerations while framing investments and policies for the sector.”

Prof C.N.R. Rao, addressing the gathering, said, “Nano science and technology has became extraordinarily important for mankind in the past 10 to 15 years. While people worked on nano science before, the importance of the subject was not realised until recently. It has immense application in medicine, various type industries and so on. We in India must participate in this new revolution.”

Dr. Yury Gogotsi, a distinguished university and trustee chair professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Drexel University Philadelphia, USA and director of the Nanomaterials Group, delivered a lecture on the occasion.

Shri. Gaurav Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of IT, BT and Science and Technology and Commerce and Industries, Government of Karnataka and Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, FRS, Chairman, Conference Executive Committee, Bengaluru INDIA NANO Event and President, INSA & Honorary Professor, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru also addressed the gathering.

Dr. S Sampath, Professor, Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, was awarded the prestigious “Prof. C.N.R. Rao Bengaluru INDIA NANO Science 2018 Award” with a cash prize of one lakh rupees by the CNR Rao Foundation. The award was presented by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri H D Kumaraswamy, Govt. of Karnataka. Having started off as a PhD student at Princeton University,  Prof. Sampath has worked in the field of semiconductor device fabrication technology for more than ten years specializing on photovoltaics.

The theme of this year’s Bengaluru India Nano is “Nano for the Better World” with specific sessions that cover emerging opportunities and technologies in the field such as Nano in Health and Nano in Engineering & Technology.

The event includes a Multi-Track Conference, International Exhibition, Research-Industry Collaboration Hub (RICH), Nano SparX, Nano Excellence Awards, Poster – Walkway of Discovery, B2B partnering and pre-conference tutorials. The pre-conference tutorials covered topics such as nano fabrication technologies, scanning probe microscopy and nano medicine.

Bengaluru India Nano 2018 has attracted over 600 delegates who get to hear from over 40 Speakers, spread across 14+ sessions from countries including USA, UK, Japan, Singapore, Canada and Poland. Over 120 poster presenters from leading institutes like Indian Institute of Technology, IISER, IISc. Institute of Chemical Technology, JNCASR are presenting innovative ideas in “Walkway of Discovery”. Over 45 exhibitors are showcasing their unique technologies, products and services in the exhibition which include and DST Nano Mission with its 16 Institutes, Tata Steel, Indian Oil, IIT Delhi, IIT Mumbai, IIT Madras, VIT, Dino, Poland, Horiba Scientific, HHV, Karnataka State Higher Education Council and start ups.
