Delhi Air Pollution: ML Khattar Announces Cash Award For Giving Information About Tubble Burning

Mumbai: As there is no improvement in Delhi’s air quality, Harayana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, on Friday, announced a cash award of Rs 1,000 for giving information about the stubble burning.

The Haryana Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement that this amount will be given to those who will give information about burning crop residues in their area and the identity of the person giving the information will be kept secret.

The Chief Minister also directed the concerned authorities to encourage farmers not to burn crop residues and also made them aware of various options of managing crop residues for the protection of the environment.

“There should be a discussion on giving the farmers the latest tools and benefits of various schemes to sell crop residues and encourage crop residue management,” Khattar said.

The Chief Minister directed that a soil testing lab should be opened in each mandi of the state in which the farmers land will be tested. Apart from this, Khattar also directed that a Micro Soil Testing Lab be set up in every five villages.

He directed to launch a comprehensive Lanta Free Land (Salinity Free Land) campaign in the state. He asked the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to make efforts to make saline land cultivable so that this land can be made a source of livelihood for such farmers.

The Chief Minister asked the officials of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to visit the top 10 villages in the state, where maximum crop residue burning has been reported to find out the reason behind this activity.

Air quality in the national capital fell to an emergency level with the Environmental Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority, the Supreme Court declaring a public health emergency in the Delhi-NCR region.

The EPCA asked the implementing agencies to take immediate strict steps to prevent burning of stub in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana.
