Delhi Air Quality Remains In ‘Very Poor’ Category

There is a possibility. According to SAFAR forecasts, very poor sections and some hot spots within Delhi may touch the high-end area

Mumbai: No relief for Delhiites, the air quality in Delhi-NCR has moved to the ‘Very Poor’ category the air quality index has been 360 Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) reported.

Dhirpur, PUSA, Lodhi Road and Mathura Road recorded PM 2.5 counts of 361, 342, 351 and 375 respectively, all in the ‘very poor’ category. Indira Gandhi International Airport (Terminal 3) and IIT-Delhi also registered an AQI of 365 and 365 again in the ‘very poor’ category.

SAFAR had earlier estimated that air quality in the national capital was likely to remain ‘very poor’ till Thursday (12 December).

“The overall Delhi AQI is in the very high-end of the very poor category. The SAFAR model forecast for Tuesday (December 11) suggests calm surface winds and low ventilation coefficients, leading to the accumulation of pollutants and a dip in overall AQI. There is a possibility. According to SAFAR forecasts, very poor sections and some hot spots within Delhi may touch the high-end area.

AQI between the range of 51 and 100 is considered as ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 is ‘moderate’, 201-300 falls under the category of ‘poor’. While 300-400 is considered as ‘very poor’, levels between 401-500 fall under the ‘hazardous’ category.

However, the air monitoring agency has forecast relief from pollution by Friday (December 13) due to light rain.
