Delhi Air Quality ‘very bad’, Expected To Get Worse On Sunday

Mumbai : Officials said that the quality of air of Delhi was recorded in ‘very bad’ category on Saturday, but due to the adverse weather pollution and the adverse weather conditions of pollution, ‘serious’ was on the verge of turning.

The statistics of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Center-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) showed the overall air quality index (AQI) 389 and 369 in the national capital respectively  both in ‘very poor’ category come on.

The quality of air came in the ‘severe’ category on Saturday morning, but by the afternoon it became ‘very bad’. Delhi’s air quality is coming between ‘very bad’ and ‘severe’ categories for the past 10 days.

According to the CPCB data, ‘severe’ pollution was registered in 15 areas, while 21 areas had ‘very poor’ air quality observed. In the National Capital Region (NCR), Ghaziabad recorded ‘severe’ air quality, while Faridabad, Gurgaon and Noida registered ‘very bad’ air quality.

CPCB said that the overall PM2 level with diameter less than 2.52 micrometres – particulate matter particles in the air at 234 and PM10 level was recorded at 380.

The National Capital on Sunday registered its second highest pollution level of 450 with AQI of 450. Air quality was ‘serious’ on Monday and Tuesday. The level of pollution declined slightly and on Wednesday the quality of the air went into ‘very bad’ category.

“Air quality over Delhi is very poor which may improve slightly as winds are relatively high during day but predicted to deteriorate by tomorrow as winds speed is unlikely to remain the same and other meteorological conditions are already not favourable. Cold wave conditions are likely to persist at least for next 2 days,” the SAFAR said.

“The air quality index will continue to fluctuate between 360-380 for the next 3 days which falls under upper side of ‘very poor’ category,” it added.

The SAFAR also pointed out that a consistent “day-night trend” is observed for the past one week.
“During night, combination of calm wind and colder conditions is elevating the pollution level where in many locations, 24hr rolling average (AQI) is touching severe levels for few hours whereas during the day, wind speed is picking up slightly and temperature is increasing to keep level in very poor range,” it said.
