Delhi Government Revokes 70% ‘Special Corona Tax’ on Liquors

Mumbai: Liquor sale in Delhi becomes cheaper, as the Kejriwal Government revoked 70% special Corona tax on alcohols with effect from 10th June.

Earlier this week, the state government had disclosed the news. “The Delhi government lifted ‘special corona fee’ on liquor from June 10, but raised VAT on all categories of alcohol from 20 percent to 25 percent”, as quoted by the PTI on Sunday.

Delhi High Court had reportedly issued a notice in response to several pleas opposing the imposition of a 70% special Corona fee in the capital on 15th May.

Delhi government had levied a special 70% tax on liquors upon the massive crowd after the reopening of Liquor shops amid the coronavirus pandemic. Boosting government revenue was also a reason to levy an extra tax on MRP.
