Delhi Govt Issues SOPs For Reopening Of Schools And Colleges From September 1

Delhi: Delhi government has issued guidelines for the reopening of colleges and schools for classes 9 to 12 from September 1. The government said a maximum of 50% students per classroom may be called depending upon capacity.

As per the latest DDMA guidelines, a maximum of 50 per cent of students per class can be called on the basis of capacity and the timetable should be prepared as per the occupancy limit of the classes. The educational institutions must follow the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) norms as specified by the government, the DDMA said.

The agency has also directed schools to set aside lunch breaks to avoid overcrowding. These breaks should be conducted in open areas as per the guidelines.

Schools and colleges have been asked to set up quarantine rooms for emergency use and discourage regular guest visits. The DDMA has directed schools not to allow students and teachers living in the Covid Containment Zone to enter educational institutions.

All government schools for classes 9 to 12 will open from September 1, all private schools can also resume classes for classes 9 to 12. Coaching centres can also start classes for class 9 to 12 students. No decision has been taken yet on reopening junior classes.

Seeing the marked improvement in the COVID-19 situation in Delhi, the authorities decided to reopen the schools.

Delhi added 32 new cases of Kovid-19 and zero mortality rate for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday. The positivity rate in the national capital is 0.04 per cent. It has remained below 1% for more than 90 days. Delhi has added an average of 32 cases daily in the last seven days.

Schools in Delhi have been closed since March last year when Covid-19 cases started rising for the first time in the country. Classes resumed for a brief period in January and February this year but were suspended in April as a brutal second wave of Covid-19 (fourth for capital) pushed health care infrastructure to its limits.
