Delhi In ‘Critical’ Situation Amid Coal Shortage: Arvind Kejriwal Slams Centre

Madhya Pradesh & Karnataka have claimed to have enough supply to meet state’s Power Demand

Mumbai: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday, said that the situation in the national capital was ‘critical’ and added that chief ministers of many states had written to the Centre about the reported power crisis due to coal shortage.

“The situation is critical and many CMs have written about it to the Central govt. We all are working together to improve the situation,” Kejriwal said while commenting on the shortage of coal in power plants.

Madhya Pradesh Energy Minister Pradhuman Singh Tomar has said that the state was in a better position and the crisis was largely at a national level.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also said that Karnataka has enough supply to meet the state’s power demand. “I have met the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav, who, too, has assured me that once the letter from Maharashtra reaches him, he will expedite the process,” Bommai said.

“The crisis is at the national level, and Madhya Pradesh is in a better position in this situation,” he told news agency PTI.

The Congress party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala launched an attack on the BJP and said that the coal shortage was a ‘Modi-made crisis’.

“Suddenly we are hearing of a crisis in coal supply to power plants. Is one particular private company making a fortune out of this crisis? But who will investigate,” said former environment minister Jairam Ramesh.

Amid reports of shortage of coal, the Union Coal Minister on Sunday assured and said, “Any fear of disruption in the power supply is entirely misplaced. “The Union government also assured that there was enough stock of coal to generate electricity and make it available in the country.
