Delhi To Start Unlocking From May 31; Construction Activities, Factories To Resume

Mumbai: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today announced that the process of unlocking the national capital will begin after the current lockdown ends at 5:00 am on May 31.

“It’s now the time to start unlocking gradually. We don’t want a situation wherein people save themselves from coronavirus but die due to hunger,” Kejriwal said in his address.

He announced that the unlock process in Delhi would start from May 31 and would be done in phases.

Keeping in mind the difficulties of migrants and labourers in the city, the Chief Minister of Delhi said that from May 31, construction activities, factories in Delhi will be allowed to reopen.

Kejriwal’s announcement came today after an important meeting to discuss whether the lockout in Delhi should be increased as coronavirus infection is decreasing in Delhi. The meeting was attended by Lt. Governor Anil Baijal, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Chairman of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

The Delhi Chief Minister had said that unlocking at once would not be appropriate and activities would be opened in a phased manner from 31 May.

Delhi recorded 117 more COVID-19 related deaths on May 27, the lowest since April 15. As per the health department, 1,072 people tested positive for coronavirus disease. According to the daily health bulletin, the positivity rate dipped to a nearly two-month low of 1.53 per cent.
