Mumbai: Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were elected as secretary and treasurer, respectively, at the BCCI Special General Meeting (SGM) held in Mumbai on Sunday. Both were elected unopposed, being the sole nominees for the posts vacated by Jay Shah and Ashish Shelar.

Jay Shah stepped down as secretary after assuming the role of ICC chairman last month, while Ashish Shelar resigned after being sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government. Saikia, hailing from Assam, had been performing additional duties as secretary since Shah’s appointment as ICC chairman on December 1. Previously serving as joint secretary, Saikia’s elevation leaves the joint secretary position vacant. Bhatia, meanwhile, represents Chhattisgarh.

In a declaration, electoral officer A.K. Joti confirmed the unopposed nature of the election, stating, “The two elective posts of the office bearers – secretary and treasurer – were uncontested, and it was not necessary to conduct a poll in respect of these posts.”

Jay Shah, who was felicitated by the BCCI on Saturday night, was honored again during the SGM.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla informed reporters that the meeting was focused solely on the elections, with no other discussions on the agenda. Following the SGM, Shukla participated in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Committee meeting, where he revealed that WPL venues were nearly finalized and would be announced soon.

Additionally, Shukla confirmed that the selection meeting for the Champions Trophy is scheduled for January 18 or 19.
