DGCA Demands Complete Audit and Inspection Records from Air India Post Ahmedabad Crash

Mumbai: Amid mounting concerns over aviation safety, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has demanded a comprehensive report of all inspections and audits conducted for Air India since 2024. The move comes in the wake of the tragic crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on June 12 in Ahmedabad, which claimed over 270 lives, including passengers and people on the ground.

According to sources, the aviation safety regulator has instructed all flight operations inspectors to submit detailed records of both planned and unplanned inspections, audits, and other safety evaluations conducted on Air India operations during 2024 and up to the present date in 2025. The deadline for submission is Sunday.

The DGCA’s directive was communicated via email just a day after the regulator issued a show-cause notice to the Tata Group-owned airline for violations related to Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL). Additionally, three senior Air India officials were removed from their positions due to lapses linked to the crash.

The DGCA has specifically sought detailed findings from various types of inspections, including:

  • Cockpit/enroute audits
  • Station facility inspections
  • Ramp and cabin inspections
  • Safety and operational audits

The renewed scrutiny on Air India follows reports of systemic issues in flight operations, scheduling practices, and aircraft maintenance, some of which may have played a role in the Ahmedabad tragedy.

Air India has yet to release an official response to the DGCA’s latest directive, but industry observers note that the airline is under significant regulatory pressure to overhaul its safety protocols and operational management.

As investigations into the Ahmedabad crash continue, the DGCA’s intensified oversight signals a broader effort to ensure strict compliance with safety norms across India’s aviation sector.
