Dipa Karmakar’s Eyes On High Performance On Olympic Berth

Mumbai: Dipa had claimed a bronze at the vault event of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Cottbus, Germany in November 2018, to make a strong bid for her Olympic qualification.

It was Dipa’s first appearance after recovering from the knee stretch, which had spoiled her spot in the Jakarta Asian Games, where she had missed the safe in the final and had to be out of the team competition.

“I hope to produce some good performances and progress towards the Olympics,” said the gymnast from Agartala, who had vaulted her way to a fourth-place finish at the Rio Olympics.

This time the Olympic qualification is through several routes including the World Cup. Deepa said that I want to explore all possible ways to increase my chances for the 2020 Olympic competitions, and after my last medal in Germany in the World Cup last year, my confidence has increased.

India’s Dipa Karmakar will see back-to-back artistic gymnastics in Baku and Doha to secure an Olympic berth with “some good performance” in the World Cup.

Speaking about the ups and downs, Dipa Karmakar had to sit outside for nearly two years after surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament injury in 2017.

Although she did not forget to win a bronze in the women’s safety in the international game event, this has made gymnastics a game which is not so popular in India.

Ace gymnast Dipa Karmakar is ready to represent India in the upcoming World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan and Doha, Qatar. She says for her, every competition is very difficult but she does not feel the pressure. Further in the competitions beginning March 14
