Doctor Tests +ve For Covid-19 In Dharavi, Family Put In Quarantine: BMC Official

Mumbai: A 35-year-old doctor, who has a clinic on the main road in Dharavi area of Mumbai, has tested positive for coronavirus, a BMC official said.

This is a third COVID-19 case where the patient has a connection with Dharavi.

The BMC official said, “His family is placed in quarantine, he will be tested for coronavirus today. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has changed its contacts. The building where he lives will be torn apart and all high At-risk contacts will be detected.”

On April 1, the 56-year-old textile shop owner living in the Slum Rehabilitation Authority building in Dharavi became the first in the region to test positive for coronavirus. He died the same evening. On Thursday morning, a municipal cleaning worker who lived in Worli but was posted in Dharavi.

The spread of the highly contagious virus in Dharavi is dangerous, as it is home to more than a million people.

Dharavi has 8.69 lakh people per square mile, making it a potential hotspot for the spread of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, according to the latest data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 335 confirmed cases, 42 patients and 13 patients in Maharashtra.

India has so far reported 2069 cases of which 155 are fine, 53 deaths and one migration case according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
