Don’t Have To Show Documents: Andhra On Conducting NPR

Mumbai: Andhra Pradesh government issued an order stating that the state will carry out an exercise to update the National Population Register (NPR) for a period of 45 days.

During this exercise, people will not be required to submit any document. “Enumerators are…not to press for any further answers to any query if they (people) don’t intend to give,” it said.

The order stated that “in view of the many apprehensions and apprehensions regarding the conduct of the NPR practice,” it was issuing clarifications to the authorities, for easy dissemination to all concerned.

“People are not required to submit any documents to the enumerators during the NPR exercise. People need enumerators to record whatever answers are given and for any further questions to any answers Do not pressurize if they do not intend to deliver also not to ask for any document,” the order clearly stated.

The GO further said, “All the officers involved in the NPR exercise, from the enumerator, are being trained to the effect that there is no need for people to submit any documents during the NPR exercise nor to insist on it There is a need for. Answers to any question if people do not intend to answer.”

The order also asked the district collectors to ensure that clarifications are issued during training classes of census officers. The National Population Register is a register of residents in the country, which includes demographic and biometric details.

In December last year, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy said that his state would not support the Central Register of Citizens (NRC). Incidentally, NPR forms the legal framework for the NRC.

The statement by Jagan had come after his party had drawn flak for their decision to support the BJP-led Centre on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), helping it pass Parliament, to become the CAA.
