Doordarshan Founding Anchor And Nari Shakti Award Winner Neelum Sharma Passes Away
Mumbai: Neelum Sharma, one of the founding anchors of Doordarshan news passed away on Saturday (17th August 2019). She was suffering from cancer. She has worked with DD news for more than 20 years. For years the late Neelam Sharma had been working for women and fighting against many atrocities that were faced by women in various walks of life.
She was known for her brilliant programmes like ‘Tejaswini’ and ‘Badi Charch’ and she was also awarded Nari Shakti Puraskar by President Ram Nath Kovind in 2018 and many more accolades.
The news of her passing away came on Saturday when the Doordarshan news team tweeted, “DD news mourns passing away of our dear colleague Neelam Sharma. A founding anchor with over 20 years of association with dd news, she played a stellar role in many capacities. From Badi Charcha to Tejasvini her path-breaking progs won accolades including Nari Shakti.”
Along with the anchoring, scripting and research she was also a filmmaker and over 60 documentaries are under her name. People shared their feelings through twitter and mourned for the death of a vibrant and well-known personality.
